Germanium (Ge) is atomic number 32 on the table of elements and appears as a greyish-white metalloid. Germanium has a rich history of use in the semiconductor industry and is used in fiber-optics, solar cells, and LEDs. Germanium is transparent at infrared wavelengths which makes it perfect for lenses and windows and sees use as the initial lense in heat-vision cameras.
