Iron Oxide (Fe2O3)

Iron Oxide (Fe2O3) or ferric oxide naturally occurs as the mineral known as hematite. Colloquially called “rust” this material has an alpha and gamma phase that appear as red and yellow powders respectively. Most Iron Oxide is used as the feedstock for the production of steel and iron, however, this material has also been used for magnetic storage and recording.
