Tantalum Oxide (Ta2O5) appears as a white solid, which resists solvents, but can be attacked by hydrofluoric acid as well as strong bases. The high relative permittivity & bandgap (3.8-5.3eV) lend this material to be used in capacitors in cell phones and other compact electronic circuitry. Tantalum Oxide also has a high refractive index and so it also is employed in the manufacturing of lenses used in photography.
