Indium Bonding Services
Indium is atomic number 49 and is the softest non-alkali metal with a melting point of 156°C. This post-transition metal is highly ductile, and appears as a soft silvery-white metal. Indium acts as the conductive, metal glue in-between targets, and their backing plates. A homogenous coverage of Indium is applied, by hand, and in some cases assisted by special machinery for large or complex shapes. Each Indium Bonded assembly is checked in our Quality Control department to ensure that there are no gaps present in the layer between your target and backing plate. Gaps will generally lead to overheating, and eventually rebounding will occur, which is why we use C-Scan technology to scan both planar and rotatable indium bonds for gaps.
