Platinum is an extremely rare metal, occurring at 0.005ppm in the Earth’s crust. Platinum sees uses in electrochemistry as Platinum Black which is used as electrodes. Many of its properties make it a catalyst especially when materials need hydrogenated. Being a precious metal means that most worldwide uses of the metal go into investment, as well as jewelry and other aesthetic applications.
