Tungsten (W)

Tungsten is element number 74 and has the highest melting point (at nominal pressure) of all the elements discovered. It finds uses in X-Ray Tubes, radiation shielding, superalloys, as well as piercing projectiles in military applications. Most tungsten ends up as tungsten carbide as well as other incredibly hard compounds. Instruments that use field emission guns typically will use emitter tips made of tungsten, due to the high melting point, and in electronics at electrodes in integrated circuits.
