This telluride of Zinc is a semiconductor with a direct bandgap of 2.26eV, and typically is utilized as a p-type semiconductor. ZnTe can appear from, red, to brownish red, or grey depending on the method of preparation. In photovoltaics, this material is used as a back surface field layer in solar cells.
