Aluminum (Al)
Aluminum is atomic number 13 and appears as a silvery-gray metal. Of all isotopes of Aluminum, 27Al is stable & has a density of 2.70 g/cm3. China is the highest producer of (Al) at 31,873 thousand tons produced in 2016, with Russia (3,3561) & Canada (3,208) in second and third respectively. Aluminum is resistant to corrosion due to the oxide layer that quickly forms when exposed to air. Furthermore, Aluminum has a very low density and is frequently used in mirrors, solar reflectors, and telescopes due to the reflectivity it exhibits. Along with being an excellent conductor of electricity, Aluminum is also ductile and malleable which leads to its wide use in extruded wire and sheets. Recycling Aluminum only requires 5% of the input energy required to extract it from the earth, and the metal is 100% recyclable.
