Barium Strontium Titanate (Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3)

Barium Strontium Titanate is a combination of Barium Titanate (BaTiO3) and Strontium Titanate (SrTiO3) in various proportions, forming a solid solution. BST’s dielectric constant changes with the applied electric field, temperature, and composition, making g it highly tunable and suitable for various electronic applications. Furthermore, it exhibits high permittivity, which is desirable in capacitors and other electronic components for energy storage.   BST displays phase transitions (from ferroelectric to paraelectric) at specific temperatures, which can be adjusted by changing the barium-to-strontium ratio. Barium Strontium Titanate shows non-linear optical properties, making it useful in optoelectronics and photonics. It maintains its properties over a wide temperature range, beneficial for applications in fluctuating thermal environments.

Additionally, the material finds use in electro-optic modulators and tunable microwave devices due to its variable refractive index. Moreover, Barium Strontium Titanate sees use in thin-film form for applications in tunable capacitors and phase shifters in microwave technology. Lastly, it demonstrates photocatalytic activity under certain conditions, which researchers are exploring for environment clean-up applications.
