Carbon (C)

Carbon (C) is element number 6 on the periodic table and occurs naturally in three different isotopes (12C, 13C, & 14C). Its unique ability to form polymers in the temperature ranges that appear on earth makes carbon the most common building block in all known life. Carbon’s ability to form compound numbers in the tens of millions, and continues to grow as new discoveries are made. In normal atmospheric pressure, carbon has no melting point but sublimes at 3,630 °C, but has a triple point at 10.8±0.2 MPa and 4,600 ± 300 K. Allotropes of Carbon include Graphite and Diamond which exemplify the wide range of properties this element has.
