Lanthanum Hexaboride (LaB6)

This inorganic boride of Lanthanum is a refractory ceramic, resisting attacks from heat, pressure or chemicals. It is as insoluble in water as it is in hydrochloric acid, and has a low work function, and a high electron emissivity. Typically used in hot cathodes, this material is also superconductor at 0.45K. This material is also utilized in electron microscopes, electron lithography, E-Beam welding (electron beam welding), and in X-ray tubes.
