Molybdenum Disilicide (MoSi2)

Molybdenum Disulfide (MoSi2) is a black-silvery compound of molybdenum and sulfur which is typically mined as molybdenite. Typically used as a dry lubricant, this material exhibits superlubricity, meaning as the friction increases, the shear strength also increases. This friction-reducing quality can be increased by doping the material with Chromium (Cr). Molybdenum Disulfide is electrically conductive and finds many uses in microelectronics including biosensing, photodetectors, and supporting switchable transistors.
