Rhenium (Re) is atomic number 75 and appears a dense/heavy silvery-gray metal. Very little rhenium exists on the earth consisting of the only 1ppb in the Earth’s crust and is the byproduct of the extraction and refinement of copper and molybdenum ores. This transition metal has the third-highest melting point of all elements, only exceeded by carbon and tungsten. The incredibly high heat tolerance of Rhenium allows it to be used mainly in the production of jet engines. This metal is typically provided as a powder, where it is then pressed and sintered into its desired shape.
