This carbide of Vanadium is an incredibly hard refractory ceramic. It has a hardness of 9-9.5 on the Mohs scale. It is isomorphous with V2O5, and so it also shares the rock salt crystal structure. This material also sees use in cemented carbide to increase the hardness of the material.
